Principal Harvey's Book of the Month

Bud Not Buddy  by Christopher Curtis

Bud is on the run from the orphanage and from yet another mean foster family. His mother died when he was 6, and he wants to find his father. On his journey, Bud finds danger and threats,  but he also finds kindness--in the food line, in the library, in the Hooverville squatter camp, on the road--until he discovers who he is and where he belongs. His attitude that "rules and things can have a funnier meaning" help him survive and leads him to find happiness.  - Booklist

Note:  Some of the characters in this book are based upon family members of the author.  Bud Not Buddy is highly acclaimed, winning the Coretta Scott King Award (2000) and the Newberry Media (2000).  Mr. Curtis is the author of The Watsons Go to Birmingham, Elijah of Buxton, and The Mighty Miss Malone.

Several copies (books & ebooks) are available for check out at the Dekalb County Public Library. Curbside checkout is available.  Books can be transferred to a branch near you. To get a library card, go to
